The holiday was a great way to start the week! Jim and I went on a date with another couple to a new Thai food place. After dinner, Jim and I went to a lake owned by a family in our ward and had it all to ourselves. We brought our kayaks and fishing poles and went out! The water and trees were so peaceful, once a huge flock of birds came and landed in the water and I felt like I was in a nature movie it was so beautiful. But that wasn't the best part of all. On my very first cast, I caught this bass! Jim caught one too just a little later and we enjoyed just kayaking around a little too. I love spending time with Jim and having fun together!

Nicole and Michael, ever eager to show me some new discovery in the backyard, brought me this huge mushroom they found in the neighbor's yard. I had to clarify that they not go back there and to please
stay in our yard because that neighbor also has some prized gourds from India he's growing that would probably also qualify for my children as a "discovery."

I got a great deal on a caterpillar kit and we've had so much fun watching the different stages! Jim and I have been just as fascinated as the kids. The caterpillars started out
so tiny but would practically double in size within a day! They made all of these spiderweb-looking things and ate their brown food on the bottom of the container.

After about a week they made their chrysalis and we were able to watch the caterpillars attach to the lid and make their cocoon. The darker they get, the more close to emerging the butterfly will be. We can't wait for our butterflies to come out!!

After driving home from our family pictures last night (pics coming soon to a blog near you!) Jim saw a homemade sign for crabs and pulled over the van. I think a love of crabs is in his genes from being born in Delaware and having fond memories of eating blue claw crabs they caught with his grandparents. I handed him a $10 and said that was his budget :-) It turned out that this family was selling that same type of crab and were steaming the last of their crabs to sell right then. We got to watch them steam the crabs and take a bunch home for Jim. He ate every last one of these blue claw crabs! I, on the other hand, prefer not to have my dinner watching me while I eat. I'm more a fan of the king crab legs, no king crab attached :-)
