Totally made my day to get this note from Diana: "You make good caks you make my day shine!"
I made this cake for fun. It was SO fun to make! All chocolate and sprinkles and gold touches! Jim gave it to a lady at work whose daughter was having a sleepover with friends, perfect fit!
I had fun learning how to mold chocolate and do different effects. I think ocean theme is one of my top favorites!
A little caramel work for a cake order.
A lot of mulch! We got thicker, heavier mulch this time (please last longer!!) so it took a lot longer to get it all in the back. I turned on some music and some song came on about digging holes and now it's a family favorite. I guess you have to be exhausted after hours of shoveling mulch to find it funny, but it's a good family memory.
It was cool outside and the mulch let off steam!
I went to a paint class with Diana- we were the only ones there so it was a private class. And with Diana, it was not boring for a second!
Textured buttercream and flowers in a fun color scheme.
We had Easton over for a day and I had to run by the store so these cuties helped pull carts around as I picked out stuff. They jabbered back and forth and were generally too cute for words. John had his regular doctor appointment and he is 37in tall (81st%) and weighs 31 lbs. (59th%)
For March 14th, or "Pi Day" we went to a friend's house for pie. I decided to bring some pie too, in the form of cupcakes with m&m's and oreo chocolate frosting!
Nicole had friends over for a St. Patrick's Day party. I guess this is tradition now? Anyways, they loved the minute to win it games, some old some new and they filled the house with girly giggles and laughter!
Nicole wanted a peanut butter cake with chocolate ganache and a surprise inside! With that and the rainbow colors for the peanut butter frosting, it was quite a colorful cake!
Jacob had his birthday and drew out a very complex cake design. He loves a game called Little Big Snake and I recreated the world of snakes over different terrain trying to get different sized dots so they can grow bigger and eat other snakes. Yum haha. He requested Chocolate Oreo and it was SO good!
The boys played laser tag, those toys are some of the best we've ever bought. The family doesn't use them a ton, but anyone who comes over LOVES to play!
Minute to win it games
Devin (with his dad's help!) got Jake a toilet paper wad shooter!
Easter dresses and blooming flowers make for a great photo shoot with these cuties
We got to skype with Caleb in the Philippines! The kids couldn't believe how crazy the language was! He share some special experiences and we really enjoyed the little time to connect with him.
Caramel toffee cake with gold painted flowers
The gold is SO beautiful!
Mike and I went to Frankie's Fun Park for a date! My happy-go-lucky boy with endless energy was sooo absolutely thoughtful. He gave me hugs several times as we walked around and said thank you throughout our outing and made sure we played mostly two-player games because he wanted to be sure I was having fun too. As we drove home, he wanted me to get a chocolate caramel apple to treat myself and said he would just get a little something. He really just wanted to be kind to me. I feel honored to be Mike’s mom and pray to be the support and guidance he needs to keeping growing into more of the amazing person he already is.
Jackpot! He earned a lot of tickets!
During the go-kart racing I somehow lost our card with the tickets on it! We were SO sad, but he was super sweet and didn't get mad at me.
He is hilarious! He had his 10 year old dr visit (6 months late yup) and is 79lbs (61st%) and 59in tall (85th%). Almost the exact same percentages as John, and both of them have prettymuch been in those same percentage ranges every time we go. So basically we know how John will grow :)
Made some Philly Cheesesteak-ish subs for the family for the first time the other day. Wow yum!
Spring is here and things are blooming all over the yard, I love it!
Diana was SO tired one day I found her half under her bed and curled up with blankets, totally asleep after looking at family pictures she's taken with her little camera.
Jacob wanted to smell like his Uncle Caleb. So he got Old Spice scented "Fiji."
My bracket actually was in the top 50k of the 8 million plus brackets! This was after the first couple rounds I think. Of course, prettymuch all the East Coast teams bombed out and now I don't even want to look and see how far down I am haha. But I had a moment of genius!!
Cleaned my closet for the first time in a looooong time. It was a momentous occasion!!
Walking to pick up the kids from school gives me such a breath of fresh air and I love seeing all of the blooms!
We had a two day break from school and drove a few hours to Great Wolf Lodge!
They gave all the kids ears and we swam and played on water slides for a few hours before dinner. The kids all had crab legs at this buffet. Pretty sure they ate more than their $10 per kid price. We love seafood!
Bubble party after dinner!
John loved playing out on the patio in the sunset with his cars. While wearing his Cars pajamas. Yes, the boy loves cars.
We had donut holes and hot chocolate while watching some March Madness basketball!
John's face as we begin our tour of Charlotte Motor Speedway! We didn't realize it was next to the waterpark and on the spur of the moment decided to walk in- they had cheap tours so we signed up, thinking it would be kind of boring but maybe John would like it. We all ended up LOVING it!
Our tour driver first took us to where they drag race- line up cars and see how fast they can go. The record is over 300mph in just over 3 seconds. To our surprise, he drove the tour van up to the track, then gunned it down the track, telling us facts as we went. I can only imagine what four cars, 44k horsepower between them, feels like to the crowd when they race!
The drag racing stadium
Katy was really enjoying the tour! We saw a dirt track and since I've seen all three Cars movies ad nauseum lately, I totally was thinking of Miss Fritter.
Finally he took us to the main track and there were cars practicing as well as a racing experience class.
We saw the garage where the teams work- teams bring every single thing with them and after they leave the garage is totally empty.
This car was one of the ones doing laps, it was awesome to watch!
Again, the Cars similarity between Sunoco and Dinoco made me chuckle. The tour driver was not impressed when Michael asked if there really was a Piston Cup. In fact, near the start of the tour he said "You all know who won the Daytona" right? We were clueless of course. So then he gave us a great clue- he is number 11. Even more clueless. Wish I'd done a little research for the poor guy! There was one other gentleman on the tour, dressed up and knowledgeable and related to some famous racer. Fortunately, he sat in the front seat while us yokels could sit in the back and just nod our heads yes. haha
2nd biggest tv in the world. They were the biggest until a Texas racetrack decided to get a bigger one. Of course.
The best part of the tour was when he took us on the racetrack itself, going 80-100mph and taking us up on the tilted 24 degree angle curves around the track! It was crazy to be at such an angle and to feel the speed and fun of the track. Yes, sadly, a 15 passenger van going as fast as it can is totally my speed haha. Then it was off to winners Circle!
We got to get near some of the race cars there in the pit, pretty fun, especially when the cars on the track would zoom by! John was in HEAVEN. It was so unexpectedly fun to take this little tour, and although we don't know anything about racing, it was sure interesting to get a glimpse of it! Apparently all the race teams and drivers live within 40 miles of this track.
And now you can see our family brackets are all totally busted. Oh well. There's always next year!
