Nicole took a picture of a squirrel. I remember when we first moved here I was amazed to see squirrels since AZ is not as full of wildlife in your yard. We have at least one family of squirrels that plays around and jumps from tree to tree.
I love help cleaning! With such a young family, there is only so much "help" you can take with cleaning. As the new school year starts, I enjoyed assigning Nicole and Michael and even Jacob to new tasks where I didn't need to guide them every step to prevent disaster. Such a blessing!
Nicole teaching family night on the word of wisdom. There is such power in sharing truths instead of just hearing parents talk about it. I love the great example a simple lesson like this can be and how this builds the whole family up.
The school gives Kindergarteners and First Graders these tags telling their mode of transportation home and their family info just in case the kids somehow get lost or something. Anyways, they ask that the kids wear these the first month of school. MONTH! This was Mike's after day 1. He had lost his lanyard before even getting home. I taped it together and put it on a yellow cord. Seriously, not thinking we will last a month with this. Especially when I haven't seen Jacob's since day 2.
A little baby bird got stranded in the yard and the kids were thrilled. Diana spent some time petting the bird before it was discovered. Thankfully it was time for school so the bird was given some time to recover and fly away before they got back home. There's just no way to play with a wild bird no matter how hard they try to be sweet :)
Diana is all alone these days while her older siblings are at school. When this happened to Jake he would lay on the couch bored. Diana, on the other hand, just looks for more fun. My hands are pretty full as she asks for bubbles to snack to coloring to lizards to snack to piano to snack, etc. Preschool starts Tuesday; she loved meeting her teacher on Friday so I can't wait for her to have fun there! We know two of the other students from church so that's fun too!
Mushroom kingdom the kids discovered and took a pic of.
One of three frogs found Saturday.
Jim also found a praying mantis on Saturday. He was on call so we did a lot of yard work and gardening while he went to the hospital.
Our upstairs playroom is only ever one thing- a disaster. We had to separate Nicole and Diana due to bedtime differences, so Nicole was in the playroom and the mess was driving her nuts. So we transferred some of the toys to the enclosed patio and it has been awesome! It's always been pretty bug free and the weather here makes playing outside ideal. When the kids get home from school they get a snack while I ask about their day, but then it's "go outside, and come in when you want to start your homework." They love to be outside after school :)
I asked the kids what they wanted to do for the holiday weekend. They randomly suggested pumpkin pie and karaoke. So we had pumpkin pie for dessert and then sang karaoke. The kids were hilarious! Michael was so intent on saying the words in a monotone, yet energetic voice I was dying laughing. We danced and even got the disco ball out to make it a real party. The video I took couldn't even pick up the music the kids were so loud playing the drums, "singing" and dancing. Our random pie and karaoke night was one of the funnest nights we've had as a family.
